Westboro


Westboro is an avant-garde high-end community in the west end of Ottawa’s urban area bordering the Ottawa River. Westboro is a thriving community with a lively street scene. Several high-rise condominium projects are increasing densification. The community features murals painted by a local artist. Boutiques, restaurants, professional offices and coffee shops with second and third storey apartments in vintage buildings line its major street, Wellington/Richmond Road, which contribute to the community’s ambience. Westboro has excellent cycling trails along the river that connect the community with downtown and the TransCanada Trail to the west. [4] The neighbourhood is served by two OC Transpo stations. Ottawa’s LRT (light rail transit)system will soon connect Westboro to downtown, Ottawa University and Carleton University. Westfest, free Canadian art and music festival are held along closed Wellington Street and Richmond Road during the second weekend in June which features a variety of local and national performers.

Westboro’s main residential areas have been established for several decades. New residential development only takes place now through replacing detached homes and commercial buildings with apartment buildings and conversions of single detached dwellings to duplexes and walk-up apartments. Most of the homes in the community are still single detached.

There are a number of community-based churches in the area as well as schools and recreation centres. Access to Hwy 417 is a quick drive to the south with access from Parkdale. Quebec is accessed by a nearby bridge.

The Ottawa Civic Hospital is located at Parkdale and Carling near the south end of Westboro.
